First day of kindergarten
Her first day of school, Wednesday, was really just the first hour of school. The parents stayed with them, mostly mothers. Today we stayed as well, but the children took a bus ride to learn the rules while the parents went to the cafeteria to hear about school resources. I felt good today about being involved in her schooling. I have not felt very competent lately, and Savannah picks up on that. I don't want her growing up thinking I'll forget things and be late and not get her and me as involved as others do. Apparently there was a summer reading list. The first I saw of it was Wednesday. It was probably handed out when I was either hugely pregnant or worried over Arwen's slow gaining and my mastitis.
I have felt rotten lately, very tired from getting the house ready for selling (although Brad was here to help), allergies, achy here and there, but we have enjoyed our days somehow. I read to her today from about 4 books. That's really good for me. The principal said their copies of summer books is put away after the summer, so we can just make a list of our own books that we've read. After lunch, Savannah, Seth, and I had a picnic on the deck, checkered blanket and all with marshmallows, crackers, strawberries and lemonade.
Tomorrow is her first bus ride all by herself. Seth, Arwen, and I will walk her down to Nashville because our road is a one lane, dead end. At first it seemed odd to start her to school here in CT, just to move her to another school 4-8 weeks later. I'm sure that hasn't sunk in yet for her, but she will adjust well. She made friends as soon as we got to school on Wednesday.
